3. From what I’ve seen of him, he isn’t the most technical magician but he’s definitely one of the best. His message is so good and he is so wholesale. He probably won’t win, but I damn sure hope he gets his own show after this. He truly deserves it.

9. Honestly, I don’t get the hype. The story-telling is great, but the magic (apart from perhaps the prediction portion, which we’ve all seen before) isn’t rlly magic because 1) you can see the paper in his hand, 2) him reaching for his shirt and 3) the paper between his fingers at the start. And the prediction act I’m tired of seeing, I’ve seen it over and over as nice as it is. I don’t think magic should be based on story-telling alone, because I’ve seen the same exact act but with an uninspiring story not make it past quarterfinals. I think a magician has to show something new to the table. I guess you can say Im tired of generic acts.

   1. @Aahana yup I was getting very “local magician” vibes rather than “best in the world” and I just don’t get how people don’t see past all these stories meant to distract and stir away from what’s important in a magic act: the tricks! And for each and every one of his acts, the tricks were either easy to figure out, generic or both. All respect to him for going out there but I don’t think he should win. At all 😐

   3. @Aahana yes!!! When I saw the act I’m like “if he wins, that’ll be completely different than when Shin Lim won” because fr there’s a massive difference here! Shin Lim provided us with something seem less and unique but here the act is generic and the smaller tricks are easy to figure out. And his last act you could figure it out without trying as well, even the biggest part. All in the stairs, just like always.

10. The story is cute and it can be inspirational, but I feel that I forgot he was a finalist for a reason, and I can’t remember any of his past performances because im always drawn in by an act that’s more entertaining

19. Too much story, not enough magic. The story is really great but I didn’t see this act for a story, I saw it to see magic and today I saw more story than magic. I did love his other performances though and I *give* him and his family my best wishes.

    4. Yeah I just felt like the act is all emotion, which is great but a magician needs to show magic. The prediction portion was the only part where I didn’t spot the trick’s secret (the paper between his hands, rolling up the sleeve and distracting the audience) and keep in mind that’s just from looking at the bottom half. No need for active looking. In the last act, the trick was also rather simple and easy to see how it’s done without trying but at least it used something new; the X. I don’t want to be a hater, but I wish he did something that’s new, exciting and non-generic.

    1. @Stephanie yes, but if the story also has something interesting accompanying it, it’s great. People liked NightBirde because on top of the story, the singing was amazing. But here, the magic act is very generic; we’ve seen such prediction acts several times no matter how you spin it. And the mini tricks in between you don’t have to be a magician to know how they’re done, from the paper in between his fingers and rolling up the sleeve, to reaching for his shirt to do the paper flying portion. Perhaps he’d be great for a small magician show, but this is AGT, and a story shouldn’t be enough to win the whole thing.

    3. @Andres Ayala Idk I’ve seen prediction acts again and again and again and I’m just getting tired of magicians using the same act. I wish they would do something new. That’s actually what I admire Shin Lim for; how unique his acts are. And all the mini magic tricks in between (all except for the main prediction trick, although most of these are done with people planted into the audience to help with the trick) were easy to spot from the paper in the hand, to reaching for the shirt, to rolling up the sleeve i just don’t think he’s the best magician out there. It’s all the story, and I just don’t think it’s enough to win. Just my personal opinion.

    4. @Matthew Chi I agree with you! Josh is mediocre, he has some good jokes but he should try something different that all the “disability” material. While yea, it’s important to represent it, a good comedian is versatile. And I don’t really like the choir because they just use their story and their job to get votes, which is rather unfair. I appreciate them tons, but América shouldn’t vote just because of their story. It’s why it is called America’s got TALENT.

       That is the exact reason why I hate the nurses. Their singing is mediocre at best, the only reason they are still here because “being a nurse is hard and sad”. Josh Blue ain’t my favorite but he’s fine because unlike Tavella and the nurses, he actually uses his disability as a part of his comedy act. And lastly Nightbirde. I was annoyed that she had a sob story to tell but her singing was actually amazing so I was willing to look past it
