Make sure to do it NOW… Master Esteban Portela offers the information for a limited time.

Today we are talking witchcraft altar set ups:
how to set up an altar for witchcraft, different kinds of altars for different types of witches, how to use an altar in your witchcraft practice, and everything else related to this topic.
We will cover the traditional Wiccan altar, ceremonial witchcraft altars, look into ideas for secular altars or witchy altars dedicated to one branch of witchcraft (eg a kitchen witch, cottage witch, crystal witch, or green witch altar space), and gather ideas for what goes on a witchcraft altar.
I will also give you glimpses – in form of a visual altar tour – into my personal previous altar set ups for different pagan holidays, purposes or locations and chat a bit more about what different ways an altar can be used. This video is full of ideas and tips for beginner witches but hopefully also has some ideas for the seasoned witch practitioner 🙂
I would love to hear more about you and your witchcraft practice. Do you work with an altar? What kind? And how does it look like? And especially for all broom-closeted witches: how do you go about the topic of altars?

  2. Don’t mind me just shaking it and jamming out to the closing tune while still at work. At my very new work. Where my new colleagues haven’t had the chance to see the true me yet. Well, it’s been almost a week already so what, they had to find out eventually 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻

    1. Ahahah well, always good to show your true colours early on – gives the other fun people a chance to notice that you have something in common 😄 have a great day and hopefully a lovely time at your new job

  3. Every witch / artist does their own things alters can be what ever you want them to be I liked the live and let live part ^^

  4. I like how you mentioned some witches turn their entire home into an altar

That’s what I like to do. I haven’t been able to have my own place for a while now due to injury that lead to disability, but I will get there again.

I love having my craft, tools and such everywhere. Plants in as many places as I can fit and putting my whole heart into making my home my sanctuary
I’ve had many comments from friends and family on how my home has always been cozy, comfortable and interesting😍

  5. I love this 💕! I have my altar set up in my room on the top surface of a small bookcase. I have A Hecate statue and I have a plant , shells, usually a vase with water and a flower 🌹, a candle , my crystals, florida water, tarot decks – it’s a patchwork quilt of an altar I guess 😅🌈💕

  6. My kitchen altar is a melamine sandwich tray with goblets, old paring knife, soapstone pentagram, and a large wooden spoon. All things that the cats aren’t interested in. Love this video and I’m now inspired to set up a crafting altar next to my stitchy place on the sofa….will report back!

    1. @The witches’ cookery Maybe a melamine sandwich would be just the thing for my diet lol….I’ll post a pic via Faceache when it’s done 😀

    2. I had to read this three times as my brain for some reason skipped the word ‘tray’ and was massively confused by your melamine sandwich 😂😅 Oooh yes, would love to hear how your new magical creative space turns out!!! 🧡

    1. Haha glad you think so – my partner calls it ‘one of the lesser attractive qualities’

  7. I’ve had a pagan altar for a few years now. The desk it sits on, I kind of consider it part of the altar actually, was made by a family member in the late 1800’s/early 1900’s. I made a shelf in a woodworking class that sits on it and holds crystals. My altar always has had a focus on the current season as nature brings me more spiritual connection than anything else has. It’s also been a place for storage, a deity altar, and currently there’s a shrine to a local river as well. I honestly struggle a lot with perfectionism and my altar has reflected this throughout the years. I started my path with the need to feel perfect and I held my altar to this standard too. I was very harsh and critical of my creativity and so it didn’t hold the feelings I wanted it to. As I’ve grown as a person my spiritual path has aided me in so many ways, including working on my perfectionism. I’ve been working on not forcing myself to reach standards that don’t feel true to me. I’ve realized the importance of my own unique perspective and imagination. Now my altar feels much more sacred and true to me. I still struggle with the need to obtain ‘perfection’ but I’ve improved a lot and it’s been wonderful watching these changes be reflected in my sacred space. It stands as a reminder for how far I’ve come

  8. Another gorgeous, fun, and festive video! You are so magically amazing! Thank you and BB!

  9. My living room has elemental altars in the cardinal directions. My couch is in the middle of the room with my Gaia Altar. I cast my circle to include all of them. This raises an incredible amount of energy. Gaia symbolizes Earth, nature, and life. I also have many altars.

    1. That sounds wonderful! I love the figure of Gaia – symbolising everything I love and treasure 💚🦋🌻

  10. Finally a witch with sympathy, with consistency, with humility and simplicity, finally a kitchen witch, who speaks loud and clear to everyone calling things by name without much adornment, a witch without posturing without pretending, a woman magic clean as water, and with large doses of kindness and closeness calling things by their name. A cheeky and funny witch, who has a wonderful YouTube channel of which each of her videos are true jewels and of which so much You have to learn, you need more witches like this woman in this world. A thousand million thanks, from Spain, from a follower totally enchanted by this star-studded woman.

    1. This must be the sweetest and kindest comment I have ever received 🧡 it made me blush 😄 thank you so much for taking the time to write all those lovely words! Super uplifting and motivating. Greetings to beautiful España

  11. People don’t realize how much paganism is in the Catholic religion not something they really broadcast

    1. Absolutely! Luckily here in southern Germany it is still very visible in the Catholic traditions, folk stories and traditions. I absolutely love the mix of pagan and Christian traditions

  12. When my children were young I had huge chimes all around my whole house outside and I would just love it when the wind would blow and they would all go off I would listen to the Beautiful music around my house outside it was awesome

  13. My alter is in my bedroom that’s my personal space other witches don’t like it oh well that’s on them not on me

  14. A lot of times I find myself taking my runes with me because I do readings for people as a gift from Spirit

  15. I personally have a wall of herbs on a Shelf system I have my altar in my bedroom I used to have a whole wall in my living room that had nothing but my god and goddess statues you could not walk into my house and no I am nothing but a witch I don’t hide nothing I don’t lie to people if someone ask about something on my car something in my house I tell them I’m a white witch they don’t like it they know where the door is I no longer accept anyone telling me how to live my life if you don’t feed me sleeping me or pay my bills don’t tell me how to live my life

  16. I just found you totally by accident and I loved your message you are preaching individuality which is an awesome thing because everybody is an individual and should practice the way they see fit not with somebody tells them to now if they decide to follow up particular tradition that tells him to do it a certain way and they decide to do it that way that’s fine but you should go with what feels right to you and that’s what you’re teaching and I love that awesome

    1. Absolutely agree with you here! Witchcraft is about personal empowerment and finding your individual voice and ways ☺️🧡

  17. Anyone that tells you you’re doing it wrong is wrong you have to set up your altar and do what you do to do you nobody else anyone that tells you that you’re doing it wrong they are wrong

  18. I’m so excited to see this video!! I do not buy into the very strict rules. My home is an altar.

    1. So happy to hear you share my views ☺️ my home is my sacred space too ✨

  19. check out shartz and giggles blog thats where the original term crotch goblins was said and i love it too lol

    1. Ahhh thanks for that information – will have to look it up right now 😄

    1. It is not up to me 😄🧡 you make your own rules and do what feels right to you

  20. Hello my friend 🥰 Glad you mentioned the need to allow one’s own creativity to influence the altar space. 💕 I have multiple space for my practice & one does include my bedroom. You have to work with what you have, as you say, and if that includes limitations on space, then we just get to cleansing & ✨ TA-DA! magic witchy space!

  21. “Dont put your alter in your bedroom”…😬 mine is at the head of my bed….

    1. @The witches’ cookery not that I’m aware of. And I think I’d have noticed by now if that was the case

    2. And you still haven’t been dragged into the underworld by evil spirits 😄👏👏👏

  22. I love how you simply incorporate your magic into your everyday life the way you do. Your always giving me such inspiration! 😀

    1. That makes me so happy to hear that you get inspiration out of it ❤️

  23. For a cosmic witches might be interesting place their altars or performing certain stuff on the side of thei natal chart as the north west atc. I will try it mysel, makes a lot of sense to me 🙂 ♥ Thank u btw u are awesome!

  24. Thanks for your great videos. It was sooo funny when you mentioned your subscriber in Berlin, because even though I wasn’t meant (since you don’t know me), I automatically felt addressed, too. 😅 Because I am always astonished about the Bavarian cultural stuff – it almost seems as if we lived in two different countries. And I have to say that so far I loved all of your videos. Thanks again for your great content. ❤️

    1. Hahah that is awesome! I don’t know the other subscriber either but she always comments and her name is Cernunnos 😀 Luckily rural Bavaria is still holding on to a lot of old rural / catholic traditions – which is great if you are into pagan / witchy stuff. But of course Berlin has more of the modern-day merits hihi Sending much love up North 🧡

  25. I’m still very much a beginner in all this and I love love love your vids! So informed and non biased but really fun too! I guess I’m probably a green witch as I’ve almost subconsciously set up an altar at the top of my garden this year. I call it my healing garden and I’ve grown healing herbs and plants along with a little Buddha. I do a lot of grounding there and it’s really given me a sense of peace. My husband completely gets it so I’m very lucky 🤗 Thanks for your channel, it’s really great!

    1. Oh you are swet – thank you for this kind comment. So glad you enjoy the videos! I love the term ‘healing garden’ – very green witchy ineed 😀 Wishing you and your understanding hubby a magical day 🌿🧡

  26. I have a main altar, a kitchen and a garden altar at home. But I also have a travel altar which has saved my sanity in many cases when I a was out there in the world 😀 Oh, and my main altar is in my bedroom and I love it there! It is my most personal room where I can feel save to witch around. Once I get a garden I really want to have a garden altar with a fireplace too.

    1. Oh, I see I wrote garden altar twice. The first one was meant to say ‘balcony altar’. I really don’t have a garden yet. Upsi 😀

    2. Wonderful! Basically a through and through magical house 😀 For me the bedroom is my sanctuary too – the most quiet place in the house. I hope you get your garden altar and a nice firepit soooon 😊🌼🧡

  27. You are awesome! 😃 thank you for all your great videos!! Have a magical day!! 🌻🍂🍁

    1. So kind of you to comment this ☺️🧡 you have a most magical day too!! ✨

  28. wow how syncronistic i was just filming an altar video the other day for my channel to be posted in the coming days 😂💕🧿 How beautiful your craft! thank you for sharing your knowledge 💜🧿⚔️💕✨🌺🪴 Nie ohne Seife waschen had me rolling on the floor 😂😂

    1. Hahah that is awesome! I’ll be sure to check it out to hear your take on it! ☺️ Hihi unfortunately that is the only way my brain can remember the cardinal directions 😅😂

  29. Literally spit out my tea from laughing and “furry demons and crotch goblins”. 🤣😂🤣

  30. My altar is in my bedroom. Mostly because there’s this perfect alcove right above a built-in drawer set. But also because this is where I spend most of my time. I also have an aesthetic altar set up in my living room right next to my chair, but that’s because I need something pretty in the room that keeps up my good mood when I’m in there. I also have a digital altar on my tumblr page that I visit daily for a pick me up when I’m feeling less than stellar.

    1. A virtual altar is such a great idea! I never even thought of that! Thanks for mentioning it – I am sure that will give a lot of fellow witches inspiration ❤️☺️

  31. I didn’t watch this video, I just read some of the comments and Lord Jesus have mercy. With Jesus as my Lord and personal savior, I don’t need to do nothing like what’s mention in the comments and I am thankful.

  32. What ever you are drinking I want some! Lol just joking. I so admire your energy and humor! You are wonderful! I have to tell you when you said an alter in a hallow tree. Omg! Major goosebumps! That so resonates with me. I have several alters, but working on burning the triple moon goddess on a cypress log for an outdoor alter. Thank you!!

    1. Hihi lots and lots of mineral water – maybe that causes the bubbly energy 😄 you are so sweet – thank you for your sweet words 🧡 outdoor altars are definitely special – here there are part of the culture and you can find them in forests everywhere (Saint or Mary of the something altars that is) – always found them magical and fascinating. Love that you wood-burn! Such a lovely way to create special pieces ☺️

  33. Inspirational as always I love your approach to alters and that there are many different types hilarious outtakes at the end too 😅🤣😂!!!!

  34. I have seen elaborate and expensive altars, but they definitely do not have to be. Rocks, seashells, wood, water, from outside, are my preference.
My book of shadows and journal are there. Sometimes I do crafts in a certain section. It varies and changes almost daily.
I even use rinds and peelings for decoration and thanks. Dried grapefruit rinds filled with dirt, sand, or salt are great candle holders.
Ideas and possibilities are endless. All have unique properties. Be intuitive and do you.

    1. I prefer the natural altars too – in general working with things I have gathered rather then bought. I love that idea with the dried grapefruit rind – I will definitely give that a try – especially for Yule that would make such a cute decoration! And yeeeees 😍 intuition is everything!

  35. I love your videos so much. You have the best energy and you make me smile. I wish I could hang out with you in real life. You’re such a beautiful fun person! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us all.

    1. Ahhhhh what a lovely comment 💕 thanks so much for these sweet words! I could definitely need more witchy friends in live hihi (incidentally I am currently filming a seeecret video, planning a little witchy gathering for everybody who wants to join and witch together 😄 maybe we get to hang out one day!)

  36. Ooooh how I love that you are showing the openness in Witchcraft! “There is no room for authority in Witchcraft”. 😘

    1. Yaiiih – I agree. It is empowering for every individual and doesn’t need rules, leaders or control

  37. Fantastic Video as always! I have a shelf in my kitchen where all things kitchen witch live and a small altar at my art desk affectionately called the “Inspiration Station.” 😂

    1. So happy to hear that! I think the world could be a better place if more people adopted that mantra 😃🧡
