  2. I was diagnosed with CCCA back in 2015. It’s been horrible to deal with. I did have low vitamin D levels which did not help. As a female, hair loss is devastating. 🥲

    1. @Chris King You’re Preaching to the Choir – I’ve been rocking my look for 20 yrs. That’s me in the pic. I don’t have a problem with it, nor does my husband of 30 yrs. I’m good – I was just weighing in on the topic. Be Well ✌🏽.

    2. @Michele Bradley I’m not familiar with that condition but if you can get roots planted on your head maybe they’ll grow. Maybe not due to your condition. But anyways just go bald and rock it. Some women look really sexy with short or no hair. Google bald women sexy. Check it out.

    3. @Chris King Don’t think I haven’t explored every Avenue🙄. If I had 1/2 of the $$ I’ve spent on Treatments. Hair transplantation is suitable for people with permanent baldness, the type that runs in families. It’s not usually suitable for people with other types of hair loss, such as the type that causes bald patches (Alopecia Areata).

  3. I’ve definitely noticed this correlation. I had a blood panel that showed a deficiency in vitamins B and D and recently started taking supplements. I’m hoping I’ll notice a change in my hair and energy soon.

    1. Jacqueline Rosas this was a few years ago, so I’m not exactly sure what it called. I just asked my doctor if he could test me for vitamin deficiencies.

    2. Hi can you please tell me what’s a blood panel or how do I ask for it please ?

    3. Same! I was so fatigued and didn’t realize that was the issue until I got a blood panel.

  4. As a person with a former career in health insurance (yuck, I know), often health insurance will not cover testing for vitamin D when lab work is done. The insurance company will want to see that there is a medical reason that the doctor is asking for testing for vitamin D. People need to be prepared to pay out-of-pocket for that blood work, or be prepared for fighting the insurance claim, once it has been processed. Of course, it might depends on what kind of insurance coverage you have. Even if your health insurance states, for example, that ALL lab work done in the office is covered under your plan, the insurance company still determines what part of the labs are covered. And even if your doctor requested the test. It’s ridiculous.

    1. I do wish getting dha levels checked was covered, but it’s not. I don’t think they even offer the test in a traditional doctors office in the US.

    2. That’s strange, d is important to get checked. D is covered by my insurance, but for some reason they always give me issues about getting b12 levels checked. I have to remind my doctor that I’m vegan and need it checked and supposedly that is enough for the insurance company to cover it. Both should be covered though.

  5. Hi Dre! Does this (function of beauty and video) apply to those with Alopecia Areata?

    1. Not sure but when you take the hair quiz they give you options to choose like lengthen, strengthen, nourish roots, anti-aging, etc.

  6. I am 60 and have been losing hair for years because of autoimmune diseases. I used to have long wavy hair that was SO thick. Then a bad case of Covid did the rest in. Also have hereditary hair loss. Looks like male pattern baldness. I can tell you what I have found. The Walmart brand hair, skin and nails DOES create growth. For me, it’s extremely fine, cotton like that is unruly but adds bulk. I have seen real growth in a couple friends however. I have been taking D for years and no luck with that. Also, STINGING NETTLE INFUSIONS (via iHerb). My hair had not seen length in 20 plus years and in one month it has grown 2 inches! Good Luck friends. Also, a good attitude is the best medicine.

    1. Tracey Trotter thank you! I can’t figure out why my hair lose has gotten worse. I also have autoimmune, hormone problems, and really noticed it after having covid. So maybe a combination of all those. Thanks for the suggestion!

    2. I’m getting ready to try products with stinging nettle and have heard nothing but good things about it! I can’t wait! ✨👍🏾

  7. Anyone know info about the video that circulating ticktock about function of beauty causing hair loss?

    1. Not familiar with tiktok but this has been circulating. Thing is, I’ve heard this about other shampoos as well (Wen comes to mind). Not every product is going to work for everyone. There are still people who swear by Wen and that’s after all the lawsuits. There are some here on YT. I’d check one out by Abbey Yung and there’s also one by Sarah RN, BSN and some others as well.

  8. Dear whoever is reading this, I wish there was a way for everyone to erase all sadness and stress and just replace it with happiness. You have an entire galaxy and a beautiful life ahead of you. Nothing in life is ever easy, but what’s important is that YOU keep going!

Sending much Love over from Germany ♥️

    1. this made me cry so bad☹️❤️ ty so much sweet soul I was so close to the edge before reading this .. you’re amazing

  9. I’ve been watching your channel a lot, buying spf, buying upf clothing. My husband watches with me sometimes and sees me buying sun protection stuff and he wanted to look at upf clothing when we were in the store the other day. It’s working!! Thanks Dr Dray!

  10. Lets say i live in a country where healthcare isnt free. To see a specialist physician once, have blood work, scalp biopsy and then a follow up visit to discuss everything would cost an astronomical amount of money I just dont have. Outside of a Dx first model, would you have any ideas on what to do or take for generalized hair loss? 🙏

    1. You can order your own tests for common issues like thyroid and vitamin deficiency directly from labs like Quest and LabCorp. My thyroid test was $50, with a free physical consultation to discuss results. Trying to treat symptoms without knowing the root cause is a waste of time and money. Hair loss remedies for hormonal problems won’t work if an underlying autoimmune disorder or fungal/bacterial infection is causing it

    2. @Sister Ursuline
You missed the part where getting a diagnosis is incredibly expensive and no, no its not

    1. Same here 🙋‍♀️ you from germany? I was surprised someone mentioned floradix. 😅

  11. I think vit d3 is the one to take. Some docs try to push d2? Prescription?

Should we “worry” about too high d levels?

  12. Happy Wednesday! I went through Adrenal Insufficiency, Hypothyroidism, multiple surgeries, and extremely low Iron, Vitamin D and B and was shedding like crazy. I was scared. Since that time I’ve gotten my adrenal glands working again, I’m on 50000 iu Vitamin D weekly, Biotin, and overall better health and the shedding has stopped. Thank goodness. I have lots of new hair growth and it’s really thickened up again. Great video!

    1. @Michelle Tidler make sure you’re taking vitamin d3, the others your body has to convert and it’s less efficient

    2. @Lori Abercrombie Im so glad that you are doing so much better now and that your hair has come back. That can be devastating for women. I was taking hair, skin and nails as well until I was advised to stop with any lg amounts of biotin. I was so sad because my hair was coming out in clumps and has been for a few years now especially the last 2 due x. I believe stress has been the cause of my health and hair issues and I really hope I will find something soon that helps. Although I think I am a little better than I was its still really bad. Thank you for sharing your story and info with me. I dont feel so alone now.

    3. @Michelle Tidler I take a prescription vitamin D. It’s 50000 iu’s weekly. I believe she has me on it for one year. The Biotin really stopped my hair from falling out but I intend to wean off of it now that my hair is no longer falling out in massive clumps. I have heard it’s not great for you but you could see my scalp and I ordered Hair, skin, and Nail supplements and it just so happened that when I got it it’s predominantly Biotin. After about 4 months I really noticed a difference and now at a year I feel like I have all my hair back, you cannot see my scalp, and most importantly, when I wash it, clumps of hair aren’t falling out. I hope your adrenal glands get better. That was the worst 7 years of my life besides my car accident.

  13. Happy Wednesday Dr. Dray! Your timing is spot on as I am currently dealing with a scalp issue. I have an appointment with my dermatologist and I’ll be better informed for our discussion. I’m definitely interested in the this product. There’s just too much junk on the market for hair right now. I’d rather curate something designed for me. Have a great day everyone!❤️

  14. thyroid can affect hair loss, including free t3, androgen levels? Free testosterone, dhea levels?

    1. My hair started falling out when I went on levo. Once I switched to NP the hair loss stopped.

  15. Yes !!! Thank you for mentioning all the other reasons for hair loss. I was experiencing massive hair loss a year ago and when my doctor ran some test it was based on hyperthyroidism. Since I have started controlling it. The loss of hair has decreased! Your videos are always filled with so much information and tips that help me become more wiser in what is the best for my sensitive rosacea skin. Now my skincare is simple and I know what to avoid.

    Big thank you Dr Dray!

  16. About 21 years ago, I went to a nutritionist. He talked to me about things that it seemed a lot of the world would never pay attention to lol. One was fish/salmon oil, another vitamin d levels, another carbs. Still another was ancient grains

Interesting, how the world got woke lol. I only saw him that summer (he was in nyc), but I wonder what he is talking about now.

I listened to a nutritionist on the radio back then, who was taking about many of the same things, incl bone broth

Insurance did not often even pay for testing vitamin d levels then

  17. Do you recommend using 0.3% Adapalene rather than 0.1? Is 0.3% more effective? If no, why? and if yes, why?

  18. Oh my god thank you very much I’m struggling with some of this issues do you know a good doctor that you would recommend in Los Angeles California

  19. Just had a blood test, and Vit D supplements were recommended because I was deficient. Must be all that sunscreen I’m using! KIDDING. Doc never asked if I was suffering from hair loss, which I am. Didn’t check thyroid either. Another helpful video! Thank you so much!

  20. Should be taking vitamins anyway especially vitamin d everyone should they are important but sadly everyone doesn’t

  21. soooooo could grad school be affecting my hair growth or maybe a global pandemic and 2020 in general? 😅

  22. I miss seeing you mom so much! I was watching an older video of yours. seeing her be so enthusiastic and really being a part of your channel made me feel so happy. Please tell her a lot of us miss her and wish her well!

    1. I wanted to ask her the same thing…How is your mom?!?? Hope she is well. Again, love your channel and looking radiant.

  23. My doc keeps raising my vitamin d. Started at 1,000 but because my levels continued to stay low I’m up to 4,000. Been on this level for almost 2 weeks but my hair is still falling out🤦 does the brand make a difference? Or time of day you take it? I have changed brands and time of day but haven’t noticed any change. It’s so frustrating!

    1. @Sister Ursuline ok thank you. I have been on vitamin d for 6 months but like I mentioned they started low and move only 1,000 units at a time. Hopefully the 4,000 units does the trick!

    2. 2 weeks isn’t long enough to see a difference in growth. Vit D takes a long time to rise in the body but with most hair growth treatment you don’t see results for 3-6 months because of the length of the hair cycle.

    3. @AlinaNeaga thank you unfortunately I do have health concerns I am a fragile type 2 diabetic and I have stage 4 cirrhosis of the liver. I think that’s why they’ve moved so slowly they only raise it a thousand and then recheck my levels but it’s getting frustrating

    4. You can take 10000 iu safely for a month or two if you dont have any health conditions.

  24. I understand that this might be the case I’m the US but seeing dermatologist isn’t always as readily available; like here in the UK. It’s not the done thing. One would usually go to see a GP. I went about hair loss and I was immediately met with “there is nothing we can do”. I had to do my own research and (I think and hope) I have found the solution. 🤞

    1. @Kat Isme They are not always helpful, especially if you are low income. I am dealing with scars from cryotherapy gone wrong. I knew WAY more about skincare too. Dr. Dray has better advice.

  25. Oh my goodness, I’m so happy to see this! I’ve been struggling with hair loss. 🙁

  26. i went to see a derm and did blood work. they found nothing:( but my hair is still thinning.

    1. @Erica Aguirre i know the pain!!! did anything show up on your blood work if you suspected it was the meds?

    2. Could be from medications. I noticed a lot of hair loss when I started taking oral contraceptives and antidepressants. My hair used to be soo thick. And you can literally see my scalp now 😭

  27. My doctor checked my blood for my vitamin D level many years ago. My result was at 14, extremely low. He put me on prescription vitamin D for about 3 months, I believe it was 25,000 I.U.’s. It would be dangerous to take a high dose unless you had low vitamin D. My next blood test came back normal. In order to stay in normal range I take 10,000 I.U. a day. I don’t know why my body has trouble getting it from my food. I eat pretty healthy including eggs etc. a good source of it.

  28. Hi Dr. Dray! 😊 I have started taking more vitamin D for my skin and hair, but menopause has wreaked havoc on my body so I don’t know if it will help. 😭 I wish I had hair like yours!

    1. @Diana Moore you are most welcome, I hope you have a promising outcome too, be patient 🙏🏼😍🇦🇺

    2. @Diana Moore I live in Australia, currently taking Genovis Zinc Plus zinc content 125mg, Blakemores another Australian Company make high quality products also.

  29. Dray and the D stands for the vitamin this week a tremendous educator and has a wonderful way in going about it. A person who goes through the cost and stress of educating themselves to acquire credentials for occupational use then turns around and gives so many the education for free is such a beautiful thing to see. God bless you! 🌸

    1. @Uncle Charlie she sure has! Without even meeting you in person or virtually! Phenomenal 🤔

    2. @Devon Bear She has to spend so much time doing it can’t help but appreciate that!

  30. 2020 was too hard on my stress and I started shedding more than normal,my skin also started looking way more dull and dry. Went to the dermatologist, he prescribed me a mild cleanser and moisturizer, also supplements, mainly Vitamin D. I’m doing better than before.

    1. Chris, “prescribed” doesn’t always imply a pharmaceutical prescription – it could just be suggestions for specific ingredients in OTC products.

    2. @Chris King Are you okay man? I always cleansed my face and used good moisturizer. But, dermatologists know better so he gave me a better cleanser. Dr. Dray suggests us good cleansers in almost every video too. Relax

    3. He had to prescribe a cleanser? Lol Why don’t you take care of your skin without needing a dermatologist to prescribe you something? Because you have good genes I get it. Rub it in my face. Lol

  31. Somehow I’m glad that sunbathing is totally wrong! as soon as I was wondering about Vitamin D, I put on another layer of spf went to the attic window at high noon, held my naked white butt out for five minutes and hated it :-):-):-)

  32. Stress and low vitamin D were my triggers! So bad. My scalp was also itchy and my hair would keep falling so much.
    It was very depressing.
I started taking vitamin d, biotin, b12(because I changed my diet to plant based) also special shampoo :)!! Could you review Viori Bar Shampoo ??

  33. Hi I’ve been thinking if switching from Epiduo gel to Differin will still work on my acne?

    1. @Maggie Liu you moisturise on wet skin? Damp skin yeah but wet skin it’s just going to make the moisturizer alot weaker. I’m currently using la Roche-posay cicaplast blume b5 which is a soothing repair balm as I think I ruined my natural skin barrier messing with loads of different products and my skin ended up looking bad lol but this thing is the bees knees it was cheap considering its la Roche posay, I paid a fiver for it on sale. It has anti bacterial properties too you dont get that in much moisturizers. This is a balm though donuts very thick, but great for people with dry skin/broken skin barrier.

    2. I do the same as Stephanie! Moisturizer on top of clean wet skin first all over face, let it dry. Then Differin all over and let it dry (avoiding eye area). Then 2.5% benzoyl peroxide (also Paula’s Choice) just on acne-prone areas. I have combination skin, so I use two different moisturizers: Vanicream cream to my drier no-acne skin and eye area, then Aveeno Calm + Restore Oat Gel Moisturizer to my acne-prone areas.

    3. @Quick Silver if it’s working why stop? I can vouche for epiduo as I use it on my nose and it rides alllllll of the blackheads, nothing was able to even budge them slightest I tried everything for over 10 years, and then I tried epiduo and in 3 days they was gone. I will forever have a bottle of epiduo in my house! I just wish I could rid the pores off my face now 🙁 I tried everything, nothing is able to make your pores go away

    4. @Quick Silver I am. My skin tolerates it very well as long as I use a good moisturizer before applying those products (I use CeraVe in the tub, then Differin, then Benzoyl Peroxide last). I’ve found nothing else that works better for my skin, so I’m in it for the long haul at this point.

    5. @Stephanie wow thank you but are you planning to use adapalene w/ benzoyl peroxide for long term?

  34. After I survived Covid my hair fell out so bad for about 2 months. Thankfully it finally stopped and now back to a normal daily loss. Great information as always. Please till your mom how much I miss seeing her on your channel. Hope she is doing well and have her in my prayers always.

    1. If you had a high fever, that is probably the cause of the hair loss! The same happened to me when I had meningitis.

    2. I lost about 30%-40% of my hair over several months after a bout of severe and debilitating flu in early 2019. Worst flu I ever had in my life. My hair has grown back to more or less its normal thickness in the past couple of years though, thankfully. It does seem to be a normal reaction to the body going through a severe illness.

  35. There are so many triggers. So many.
Red light therapy 5x a week, derma rolling once a week and Rogaine x per week TOGETHER seemed to help the best.
But when I stopped for a few weeks, my hair fell our again very dramatically. I went on vacation and the tile in the bathroom was white. I could see all my dark hair all over the white tile. I was scooping it up daily. Very distressing, but I’ve gone through numerous cycles like this. Now, I’ve learned to just accept it and realize that if it gets really bad, I can always buy a wig.
    It does suck though.

In our society, being bald is about the worst thing you can be. Nothing is deemed less attractive than this. I hate that my hair is out of my control.

Still, it does not prevent me from living my life. I’ve dated and shown my dates my extensions and fake pony tails. I’ve gotten comfortable with it and take it off wheneverI can. My ex partner said he missed seeing it by the bed. Lol

  36. Thinning crowns and widened hair parts are so frustrating. My board certified dermatologist said there is NOTHING I can do. 😑

    1. I was diagnosed with female male patterned hair loss. I am using the iRestore and it is helping.

    2. @Kletskop yup minoxidil does nothing for me and it gives me the worst headaches on each use. 😖

    3. I’m assuming you already tried the usual spirolactone + minoxidil route? Also, it might be worth it to get a second opinion from another board certified dermatologist? Good luck from a CTE sufferer.

  37. Hello Dr Dray . I’ve been following your channel recently. Please can you suggest body moisturizers for itchy and acne prone body (chest /back). Also I currently use Cetaphil acne foamy wash and the face moisturizer with spf 30 on my oily acne prone skin and I use Vaseline intensive body lotion. Please I need recommendations.
